Man Suspected of Assaulting Mother Shot, Killed by Police
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — Police in Redondo Beach shot and killed a knife-wielding man late Thursday who was believed to have assaulted his mother, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Mitchell Allison. He shared a residence with his mother, police said.
Witnesses told police that they saw a woman being dragged into a residence.
Officers could see the suspect inside the home, but he refused to obey their commands, Redondo Beach police Capt. Jeff Hink told the Los Angeles Times.
“Officers forced the front door open, and shortly thereafter, the suspect armed himself with a knife, and that resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” Hink said.
Allison was shot multiple times and was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he later died.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were assisting Redondo Beach police with the investigation.
