WESTMINSTER, Calif. (KTLA) — A 20-hour freeway closure, dubbed the “Bridge Bash,” was scheduled to shut down a busy section of the 405 Freeway starting Saturday night.
The full freeway closure was expected to be in effect from 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, between the 605 Freeway and Valley View Street in Westminster.
During the closure, Caltrans crews will demolish the bridge linking the southbound 405 to the eastbound 22 Freeway.
The work was part of the $277-million West County Connectors project to improve traffic flow by directly connecting carpool lanes on the 405, 605 and 22 freeways.
In addition, a second carpool lane will be added on the 405 between the 22 and the 605.
Traffic on the 405 near the border between Orange and Los Angeles counties averages about 370,000 vehicles each day, according to transit officials.
Typical weekend traffic in the area is about 350,000 vehicles per day.
A list of recommended detours is available on the Orange County Transportation Authority website.
