WESTMINSTER, Calif. (KTLA) — A planned freeway closure, dubbed the “Bridge Bash,” shut down a busy section of the 405 Freeway in Orange County on Saturday evening and was expected to last about 20 hours.
During the closure, Caltrans crews planned to demolish the bridge linking the southbound 405 to the eastbound 22 Freeway.
The work is part of the $277-million West County Connectors project to improve traffic flow by directly connecting carpool lanes on the 405, 605 and 22 freeways.
In addition, a second carpool lane will be added on the 405 between the 22 and the 605.
Traffic on the 405 near the border between Orange and Los Angeles counties averages about 370,000 vehicles each day, according to transit officials.
A list of recommended detours is available on the Orange County Transportation Authority website.
