STUDIO CITY, Calif. (KTLA) — The search for a local family’s minivan, which was stolen with the owners’ dog inside, came to a heartbreaking end Monday.
Family members said they were inside a Studio City clothing store for less than a minute, never more than 20 feet away from the Honda minivan, when the thief struck.
The Mateo family has owned the 10-year-old dog since she was a puppy.
Late Monday LAPD officers found the stolen Honda Odyssey parked at Studio City Golf and Tennis, according to Studio City Patch.
Maru was found deceased inside, police said.
The dog was removed by animal control. It was not clear how she died.
The dog-adoption agency Mutt Match L.A. had offered a $1,500 reward for Maru’s safe return.
Anyone with information regarding the case was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
