TORRANCE, Calif. (KTLA) — Police on Tuesday were asking for help tracking down a burglar caught on surveillance video breaking into a pharmacy in Torrance.
The break-in happened at Fox Drug of Torrance on Aug. 9, according to police.
The family-owned store has been operated by Dr. Ahmed Atallah for nearly 25 years.
Security cameras were rolling as the burglar tried to pry open the drug store’s automatic doors and then kicked in a window.
This was the third time the pharmacy has been burglarized in recent months, investigators said.
The first burglary happened on June 15, and the second was on July 9.
Police stopped short of saying the same individual was responsible for all three burglaries, but said they were investigating the possibility.
In each incident, the thief has taken Vicodin and extra-strength Vicodin, leaving behind Oxycontin and other drugs, police said.
“Pharmacies carry narcotics, they carry prescription drugs, and they are a target,” Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said.
“We’re asking the businesses to really secure your business to give these people a line of defense so they cannot get inside,” Watt said.
Atallah said he remodeled about five years ago and removed the iron bars on the front windows.
He hoped he wouldn’t have to put the bars back in place, but said he was running out of other options.
