LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Attorney Gloria Allred announced a lawsuit against rapper Kanye West on Wednesday in connection with a scuffle with a paparazzo at LAX.
Both the videographer, Daniel Ramos, and Allred appeared at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to announce claims of assault, battery and negligence against West.
“Mr. West suddenly attacked Danny, punching him and attempting to wrestle Danny’s camera from his hands. Danny held on to his camera and fell down onto his knees onto the paved sidewalk with enough force that he sustained injuries to his right hip, was in great pain, and had to be transported in an ambulance to the emergency room,” Allred said.
According to the complaint, West violated Ramos’ civil rights, was malicious and willfully humiliated him in the July 19 incident.
Videos showed West lunging at the videographer in an apparent attempt to take his camera away after a verbal altercation.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced last week that it did not plan to pursue felony charges against West.
The paparazzo did not suffer any serious injuries, and it was unknown if the camera was damaged, prosecutors said. They also cited West’s lack of a felony record.
The case was being forwarded to the city attorney’s office, which could choose to file misdemeanor charges.
