SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Police on Friday were searching for suspected gang members involved in a shooting in South Los Angeles that left two boys and a man wounded.

Gunfire rang out around 7 p.m. on Thursday at South Park near the intersection of 51st and San Pedro streets, Los Angeles police said.

Shooting leaves three wounded at park in South L.A.

The incident happened during a “Summer Night Lights” anti-gang event at the park.

A 12-year-old boy was struck in the hip by a ricochet bullet. An 8-year-old boy was hit in the ankle.

The third victim was a man about 25 years old who was shot in the arm.

He was apparently one of the gang intervention personnel who was in place for the Summer Night Lights event.

None of the injuries were critical, authorities said.

The Summer Night Lights Program was launched by former mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 2008.

The goal is to provide positive opportunities for young people in crime-ridden areas during the summer months, when crime traditionally spikes.

This was not the first time that violence has marred a Summer Night Lights event.

Back in July 2011, two teenagers were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Wilmington.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the LAPD.
