LEBEC, Calif. (KTLA) — One person died Tuesday morning when two big rigs collided on the southbound 5 Freeway near Smokey Bear Road, authorities said.
One southbound lane was reopened as crews worked to clean up the crash site, according the California Highway Patrol.
Sky5 video showed traffic backed up for miles on the southbound side of the freeway as emergency personnel extinguished fires on the trucks and in nearby brush.
Northbound traffic was not affected.
Drivers were advised to take the eastbound Highway 138 to the southbound 14 Freeway as an alternative.
