Highway Patrol officers were participating in tactical training exercises in the Stevenson Ranch area on Monday when the theft occurred, according to a CHP broadcast.

Two countywide crime alerts were broadcast Monday, listing the stolen weapons as two AR-15 semiautomatic rifles, two Remington shotguns and two Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handguns.

A bulletproof vest, handcuff keys and the officer’s identification were also stolen.

Some items, including the badge, were recovered Tuesday near 120th Street and Central Avenue in Willowbrook.

The weapons were reportedly still missing.

The state wants to outlaw my AR-15. I can't have one that holds more than 10 rounds like CHP. Yet, somehow, I feel I'm a more responsible gun owner since I don't leave them unlocked in my car.

Also, why does CHP need that kind of fire power? I'm 40 years old. They've stopped me 3 times. No front plate on my 2004 Mazda. Tinted windows on my wife's company car (a Malibu) and tinted windows on our Prius. Really, you target a family of 5 in a Prius? California is really safe thanks to that awesome, wish I was a real cop, work the CHP does.

Why show a picture of an AK variant? There was no mention of that type of firearm in the story. Sensationalism, or are all black guns the same type of scary to you?
