Extreme heat was expected to blanket Southern California again on Friday, with temperatures hovering about 20 degrees higher than usual for this time of year.

thermometerAmong the areas that were expected to be hottest were the valleys of Western San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Ventura County, where the thermostat may reach 105.

On Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, where a high of 102 was predicted, passersby reacted to the early-September heat.

“It’s horrible. I have air conditioning, thank God, in my apartment,” a man said on his way into a coffee shop as dawn broke.

“It’s like an oven,” a cyclist said, describing the experience of riding is motorcycle in the heat.

The above average temperatures were expected to continue into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Everyone should remember to take special care of themselves, children, the elderly, and their pets. Extreme heat such as this is not just an inconvenience, it can be dangerous and even deadly,” Jonathan E. Fielding, MD, MPH, Director of Public Health and Health Officer said.
