A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was being held on $325,000 bail Friday following an arrest for allegedly having sex with an underage girl, authorities said.
John Augustus Rose II, a 22-year veteran of the department, was taken into custody Thursday, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s department.
The statement said Rose, 43, was suspected of having sex with the 14-year-old girl while he was off duty.
The alleged incidents happened between February and June of 2013.
Rose was relieved of duty without pay, the sheriff’s department said.
The veteran deputy was most recently assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau.
Over his career, he won several awards, including a Medal of Valor for saving a woman’s life during a fire in 2002.
He faces a felony charge of lewd acts on a child, and is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
