Police were planning to book an Arizona woman on suspicion of murder Saturday after discovering her two children dead in a Santa Ana hotel room, according to authorities.
The children’s bodies were discovered inside a room at a Hampton Inn & Suites around 8:20 a.m., Santa Ana police told KTLA 5 News.
The hotel is located at 2720 Hotel Terrace Drive off the 55 freeway.
The children’s ages and gender were not released. A coroner’s report was pending.
Their mother was arrested miles away in Costa Mesa, after driving her car into steel poles protecting an electrical box at a shopping center on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, police said.
Investigators believe she was attempting to kill herself.
She alerted rescue workers to the two children at the hotel in nearby Santa Ana.
Police officers sent to the third-floor room discovered the children inside.
The unidentified woman, who is from Scottsdale, Arizona, was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. She was later turned over to the Santa Ana Police Department.
