An Arizona woman was booked on two murder counts Sunday after her children were found dead inside a Santa Ana hotel, authorities said.
Marilyn Edge, 42, was being held at the Santa Ana Police Department, according to Santa Ana police.
No information was available on the amount of her bail.
Edge was arrested Saturday after driving her car into steel poles protecting an electrical box at a shopping center on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, police said.
When officers arrived, she “placed an electrical cord around her neck and began attempting to strangle herself,” according to a press release from the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Officers smashed the car’s windows and removed the woman.
She then alerted them to the two dead children at a Hampton Inn & Suites in nearby Santa Ana around 8:20 a.m. , according to police.
The hotel is located at 2720 Hotel Terrace Drive off the 55 freeway.
Officers sent to a third-floor room discovered the children’s bodies inside, police said.
The children were a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
Edge, who is from Scottsdale, Arizona, was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, and later turned over to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Investigators have not said how the children died. A coroner’s report was pending.
