Fresh & Easy offered deep discounts Thursday, as dozens of the stores prepared to close their doors.
Some locations sold groceries for up to 75 percent off, shoppers said.
The discount chain, owned by British grocery giant Tesco, opened six years ago.
But after disappointing sales, Tesco announced earlier this month that the Fresh & Easy chain had been sold to Los Angeles-based Yucaipa Companies LLC.
Fresh & Easy operated 199 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada, according to its website.
Several dozen stores were expected to close, although it was unclear exactly how many would be shuttered.
“We are very pleased that this agreement with Yucaipa preserves more than 4,000 jobs and a vast majority of the business,” Fresh & Easy wrote on its website.
KTLA has requested a list of the stores that will be closing from Fresh & Easy.
