Investigators from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Internal Affairs Bureau were looking into circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting in Paramount on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. in the 7300 block of Alondra Blvd near Garfield Avenue.
A Lakewood Station sheriff’s deputy confronted a man at the location. The man was said to be uncooperative and possibly on drugs, according to a department press release. He made a quick movement, which the deputy interpreted as reaching for a weapon. The deputy fired off several rounds, but the man was not hit.
The man continued to be uncooperative after the gunfire, kicking and fighting with assisting deputies. He was tasered and subdued, then transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
Charges against the man were pending.
