Fire crews responded to at least six fires over a period of about an hour, from Studio City to Sherman Oaks.

Most of the fires started in trash bins including one behind a strip mall in the 13900 block of Ventura Blvd. that spread to neighboring two-story apartment building, according to LAFD spokeswoman Katherine Main.

Police are looking for a heavy-set Hispanic man, about 6 feet tall, wearing a tank-top and riding a BMX bike.

All of the fires appear to be arson, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported.
