5 Killed, 1 Injured in Fiery Crash Near 5 Freeway in Burbank

An investigation was underway Saturday to determine the exact cause of a deadly single car crash near the southbound 5 Freeway and N. San Fernando Blvd. in Burbank, authorities said.

Five people were killed when their vehicle crashed and burst into flames, touching off a small grass fire, according to police.

Savannah Underwood, 18, was able to escape the vehicle.  She was taken to an area hospital with a broken leg and other injuries, but was expected to survive, Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn told KTLA 5.

The crash happened around 4:13 a.m. when the four-door sedan slammed into a concrete pillar, according to Burbank police.

Speed was a factor in the wreck, Sgt. Ryburn said during a news conference Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol was assisting Burbank police with the investigation.

    I've had friends before that would drive like they were in the p@ssanger seat without any care at all that they were driv!ng. After a few close calls I got my own car and would just meet everyone at their destination. Consequently one of them killed someone on the freeway and the others went through many cars from accidents and stupidity. I still have the same car without a scratch on it.

    Moral to the story: pay attention and take the time to ensure YOUR OWN safety, don't expect others to do it for you because they won't.
