The seven members of the 2014 Tournament of Roses Royal Court were announced Monday in Pasadena, amid raucous cheers and applause from their family and friends.
“Over the next two-and-a-half-months this royal court will make over 100 appearances as official ambassadors,” Tournament of Roses President Scott Jenkins said, before reading the names of the young women who were chosen from a group of 30 finalists and almost 1,000 applicants.
Each member of the 2014 Royal Court is a student at a school in the greater Pasadena area. They are:
Ana Marie Acosta, 17, of Polytechnic School; Sarah Hansen, 19 of Pasadena City College, Kayla Johnson-Granberry, 17, of Pasadena High; Jamie Kwong, 17, of La Salle High School; Katherine Lipp, 17, of Cañada High; Elyssia Widjaja, 17, of San Marino High; and Elizabeth Woolf, 17, of La Cañada High.
One of the seven young women will be crowned Rose Queen on Oct. 24. The 125th Rose Parade will wend through the streets of Pasadena on Jan 1., led by grand marshal and broadcasting legend Vin Scully.
