A woman in Anaheim died Sunday after being stabbed by her adult son, who called police and confessed to the crime, authorities said.
Anaheim police received the call about 7 p.m., according to Lt. Tim Schmidt, spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department. Officers and fire personnel then responded to an apartment in the 1600 block of 9th Street, where they found the woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.
She was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Her 20-year-old son, who had reportedly been released from a mental hospital a month ago, was arrested at the scene.
A motive in the killing was not immediately known.
“We have been to this location before,” Schmidt said. He added that the son had “a history of some mental illness.”
“We’ve had several contacts over the year with him,” Schmidt said. “We know he has been under the care of a doctor. That’s part of our investigation – to determine if he’d been taking his medication, or the severity of his mental illness.”
The son’s brothers and sisters also live in the apartment, sources told KTLA. The younger siblings were not home at the time of the attack.
