Henry Guler-Romero, who was found unharmed, was abducted from the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara area south of San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Henry was allegedly taken by his 22-year-old father, Mesut Guler, according to a CHP news release.

Mesut Guler was stopped and questioned at a checkpoint in Mexico, prompting Mexican authorities to contact U.S. Border Patrol agents in Lukeville, Ariz., a news release from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety stated.

U.S. border agents discovered a warrant for Guler’s arrest, and he was taken into custody. His transfer back to the U.S. was being coordinated by authorities in both countries.

Guler had last been seen driving a tan 2004 GMC Envoy with California license plate No. 6HIL892, authorities said. The vehicle has a large American eagle on the rear window.

At 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sunnyvale police were able to track Mesut Guler’s cellphone to the San Diego Area, KSWB reported. A “ping” of the phone showed it to be on the 805 Freeway near Balboa Avenue and Highway 163.

CHP Officer Robert Catano said Guler’s vehicle was reportedly spotted early Wednesday in the Hillcrest neighborhood and later in National City, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Sunnyvale Police Department at 408-730-7110.
