Multi-Car Crash Briefly Closes EB 10 Freeway in West Los Angeles

An investigation was underway Sunday into what set off a multi-car collision that briefly closed the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in West Los Angeles, authorities said.


Firefighters worked to extinguish a car fire on the 10 Freeway, Nov. 10, 2013 (KTLA).

Up to nine cars were involved in the collision, which happened at 1:24 a.m., on the eastbound 10 at the 405 Freeway, according to witnesses.

At least two of the cars caught fire, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP shut down the eastbound 10 Freeway while they cleared up the mess. All lanes were reopened about 90 minutes later.

One person was injured and had to be taken to the hospital, the CHP said.  The extent of the person’s injuries was not known.

One person was arrested at the scene, according to witnesses.
