Sailor on the USS Indianapolis Shares His Story of Survival

Lyle Umenhoffer was 18 years old when he joined the U.S. Navy, boarded the USS Indianapolis and went to war.

In 1945 the ship was attacked, and sank to the bottom of the ocean.

It was the greatest loss of life at sea in the history of the U.S. Navy.  Umenhoffer was one of a handful of survivors.
