Woman, Niece Injured in South Los Angeles Apartment Shooting

A search was underway Monday in South Los Angeles for the gunman who opened fire on an apartment building, injuring a woman and her niece, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex near the corner of East 105th Street and South Central Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A woman, a man and four children were inside the apartment when they heard gunfire, police said.

Everyone in the unit hit the ground, but the woman and her niece, 9, were shot, according to police.

The gunman fired between 12 and 15 rounds at the apartment from outside, then ran way, police said.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital and were in stabled condition, the LAPD said.

The motive of the shooting was under investigation.

There was another shooting a few blocks away on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of East 107th Street at South Central Avenue, police said.

Investigators were looking into the possibility that the two incidents were related.
