Authorities on Wednesday were investigating the discovery of the remains of at least 4 people in a remote area of northeast of Victorville, officials said.
Deputies were dispatched about 10 a.m. Monday to the desert area between Quarry Road and the 15 Freeway, north of Stoddard Wells Road, after a motorcyclist reported possible skeletal remains, according to a statement issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.
Coroner investigators were called to the scene and confirmed that the remains were human, the statement said.
The investigation continued on Tuesday, when officials with the sheriff’s Homicide Detail and Coroner Department responded to the location.
“Investigators believe they have located the remains of more than one person,” the sheriff-coroner’s statement said. “It appears the remains have been there for an extended period of time.”
The age and gender of the remains were unknown, pending an examination by a forensic anthropologist, authorities said.
The investigation continued on Wednesday. Sky5 video showed authorities at the scene, where officials said a grave site had been discovered and was being excavated.
Anyone with information was urged to contact Detective Armando Avila of the sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 909-387-3589. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call the We-Tip Hotline at 800-782-7463.
