Glendale police officers responded to the house in the 500 block of East Valley Boulevard about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, after the woman’s friends found her body and called 911, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When the officers arrived, they discovered the 45-year-old Asian woman lying in a bedroom, the statement said, adding that she appeared to have been “assaulted and asphyxiated.”

She was later identified as Jinmei Chen, Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials said.

Friends had gone to check on Chen, who lived alone, because they had not heard from her for several days, authorities said.

There was no sign of forced entry at the residence, the Sheriff’s Department said. However, a sliding glass door was found to have been left open.
