Lawndale Mayor Harold Hofmann died Saturday of natural causes, the Daily Breeze reported.
Hofmann held the position for 12 two-year terms and was one of California’s longest-serving mayors.
He also spent ten years on the city council.
The long-time politician was known as a feisty but fair leader who pushed through legislation for the construction of a new library and community center.
Hofmann is survived by his wife Doris and three children.
He was 81-year-old.
