A Glendale man found bleeding in his ransacked apartment Monday morning may have been beaten to death, authorities said.
Glendale police were called to a ground-floor apartment in the 1800 block of Glenoaks Boulevard at about 5:30 a.m.
An 84-year-old man found inside the apartment was bleeding and appeared to have been severely beaten, according to police.
He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
The victim’s relatives, who live in the apartment upstairs, reported hearing loud noises coming from the unit below.
The victim may have been attacked during a home-invasion robbery, according to authorities, who noted that the apartment had been ransacked.
However, it was unclear how the attacker entered the building.
“We don’t see any evidence of forced entry into the location,” Glendale Police Department Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
The man was known to take early morning walks, family members told police.
“We don’t know if he was followed home, or if he left the door open or there was a window open,”Lorenz said.
Investigators were searching for any witnesses that could help lead to the attacker.
The death marked the first homicide in Glendale this year, according to police.
Correction: Police initially reported the victim was 81 years old. They later stated that he was 84. The story has been updated to the reflect the change.
