Freddie Weston, 33, was booked Wednesday on suspicion of murder and residential robbery, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 4:30 a.m. Jan. 19, Lorna Gable, 84, and her 95-year-old husband awoke to the sounds of a man burglarizing their home in an unincorporated area near San Bernardino. Gable called 911 and told police about the intruder.

Detectives allege Weston viciously attacked Gable when he realized she was not sleeping, leaving her with “severe injuries to her upper body.”

The suspect also allegedly assaulted Gable’s husband before fleeing the scene.

He took with him cash and a 1935 Colt .22-caliber handgun, among other property, sheriff’s officials said.

Gable was hospitalized for weeks before dying from the attack on Feb. 15, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Her husband, who suffered less severe injuries, survived.
