A relative of an elderly man who died after being found severely beaten in his Glendale apartment has been charged with murder, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
James Adrian Sanchez, 21, of El Cajon, was charged with one count of murder in the death of 84-year-old Ruben Sanchez, the DA’s office stated.
Ruben Sanchez was found by a grandchild having been severely beaten at his first-floor apartment in the 1800 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard on Nov. 18, according to police.
Ruben Sanchez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
James Sanchez, whose relation to the victim was not specified by police, did not live with the victim and was not the grandchild who found him beaten, Tahnee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department said in an email.
James Sanchez was arrested by Glendale police and U.S. marshals in El Cajon early Tuesday, authorities said.
An arraignment scheduled for James Sanches on Thursday was delayed.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, according to the DA’s office.
Prosecutors recommended James Sanchez be held on $1 million bail.
