stater-forpageThe necessity for food for needy residents of Southern California is always great, and though it lasts year-round, the holiday season is a particularly tough time for many. That’s why KTLA 5, Jerome’s Furniture, Stater Bros, Six Flags and the Salvation Army — as well as Second Harvest and the LA Regional Food Bank — have joined forces to collect food donations as part of the 2013 Season of Sharing.

We invite viewers to generously donate non-perishable food items that will benefit local food banks. The food collected will help all through the holiday season.

jeromes-forpageKTLA 5 will be live at Jerome’s Furniture and Stater Bros. locations on Tuesday, Nov. 26, collecting food donations to ensure every family has a warm holiday season to remember this year.  Jerome’s will also be giving away a dining set; be sure to come out to any Jerome’s location on that day for details on how you can enter for a chance to win.

The Salvation Army Southern California Division and its iconic red kettles will occupy storefronts throughout the season. Much more than ambassadors of good will and symbols of hope, collectively through their efforts, millions of dollars’ worth of spare change is donated to help the less fortunate.

The following are the items needed most by local food banks:

Non-perishable canned goods or dry food:
•    Canned meats, fish, soup, fruits, vegetables
•    Pasta
•    Hot and cold cereal
•    Macaroni and cheese
•    Rice
•    Beans
•    Peanut butter

Personal care items:
•    Diapers
•    Toothpaste and toothbrushes
•    Toilet tissue
•    Soap

**Please no glass containers or expired items**
To promote a healthy diet, whenever possible, we encourage donations of foods that are reduced in sodium, sugar or fat, and contain no trans fatty acids.
