“Fast and the Furious” actor Paul Walker and Roger Rodas have been positively identified as the victims in a single-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday in Valencia, authorities said.
Walker, 40, and Rodas, 38, were identified via dental records, according a statement issued Wednesday morning by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Rodas, the driver of the car, died of multiple traumatic injuries, according to the statement. Walker succumbed to the combined effects of thermal and traumatic injuries.
The men “died within seconds” of the collision, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.
The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop, where a vehicle was engulfed in flames when deputies arrived, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The two victims were located inside the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT and pronounced dead at the scene after Los Angeles County firefighters extinguished the fire, authorities said.
The high-performance vehicle apparently struck a tree and a concrete lamp post before erupting in flames. Surveillance video showed about one minute elapsed between the initial impacts and the emergence of black smoke, followed by the fire.
The deaths were officially ruled an accident, coroner’s officials said.
