Los Angeles is one of six cities on four continents featuring the redesigned vehicle. The reveal will take place in Los Angeles as well as in Dearborn, Michigan; New York; Barcelona; Shanghai; and Sydney. The original Ford Mustang debuted on April 17, 1964 at the economical price of $2,368. With its unveiling, Ford conducted its first-ever simultaneous international product reveal to media in New York and 11 European capitals.
During the Mustang’s first 12 months on the market, sales built to 417,000. Within two years, sales had increased to one million. The car’s appeal was largely due to its European design and ability to suit a wide range of customers. Available models included economical “base,” high performance and luxury variants as well as three distinct body types- convertible, hardtop and fastback.
Since its debut, Mustang has become embedded in popular culture, with thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games. The James Bond classic, Goldfinger (1964) was the first film to feature the new Ford Mustang. Later films, suhc as Bullitt (1968) and Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) ensured the Mustang’s association with style and speed in popular memory.
Although the Ford Mustang celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2014, its popularity has not waned. Mustang is the most “Liked” vehicle on Facebook with more than 5.5 million fans and more than 1 million photos tagged on Instagram. In addition to its popularity within social media, there are more than 600 owner clubs around the world.
As a part of its international debut, the public is invited to attend the Mustang Reveal Celebration Event from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. TODAY in Venice Beach at Venice Boulevard and Ocean Front Walk, where they can get a look at the all-new 2015 Mustang as well as older and classic models.
