The fire was spotted by L.A. County fire fighters around 8:45 p.m. at a convenience store in the 12000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard (map).

The flames quickly spread and engulfed other businesses.

Crews were taking a defensive posture in fighting the fire due to “roof collapse & heavy fire conditions,” according to a tweet from L.A. County Fire.

There were no reports of injuries.
