Relatives of Wanda Threadgill, a 45-year-old grandmother of four, said they had not heard from her since her birthday on Dec. 4, so they decided to go to her apartment in the 9500 block of Western Avenue. Family members said they knocked on the door, but Threadgill did not respond.

“After not getting a response at the door, they forced entry into the home, and they found their mother laying in her bedroom on the floor, deceased,” LAPD Det. Chris Barling said.

Family members said Threadgill was wrapped in bedding.

“She did sustain what I would describe as sharp force trauma injuries consistent with stabbing,” said LAPD Lt. Jeff Nolte.

It was unclear how long she had been dead.
