The employee made the discovery while working at Gold’n West Surplus, Inc., which takes apart old electronics.

The device was placed in the back of a truck until a California Highway Patrol officer was finally flagged down, according to police.

Bomb squad investigators from the Riverside Police Department determined the dynamite was inert after bringing in a robot to examine the device.

An area “well beyond what was recommended” was evacuated during the investigation, police said.
