Officers who responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment building in Reseda Friday night encountered an armed man who was covered in blood, police said.
Multiple calls came just after 6:30 p.m. from residents of the building in the 7500 block of Canby Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Callers reported seeing an armed man and hearing at least 20 shots, Officer Rosario Herrera said.
Two people were wounded in the incident. One man died at the scene, the second victim, a woman, was transported to a hospital in unknown condition, according to Herrera.
A third person, believed to be the gunman, sustained a laceration, police said.
He was taken into custody outside the building after charging officers who were able to subdue him, according to LAPD Capt. John Egan.
Police would not confirm the type of weapon used in the incident or a possible motive.
