The crash was reported just after 10:45 a.m. at Las Posas and 5th Street, according to Capt. Anthony Romero of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The train, an Amtrak Surfliner, was headed northbound on its way to Oxnard when it collided with the vehicle, officials said.

The vehicle appeared to be a dark-colored SUV or mini-van, video showed.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in a truck that was parked on the side of the tracks was injured when he was struck by flying debris, Romero said.  He was taken to an Oxnard hospital, and his condition is unknown.

None of the 292 passengers aboard the train were injured, according to Romero.

The crash was under investigation.
