Several customers are complaining about alleged “price gouging” by the ride service Uber on New Year’s Eve.

Nick Nicotera said he paid $234 to travel seven miles. “I did the math. It was $36 a mile,” he said.

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said the company prefers to charge more and have cars available rather than leave customers stranded.
