Help Sought ID’ing Body Found Floating Off O.C. Coast

A man’s body found floating in the ocean off Newport Beach on Christmas Eve remained unidentified more than a week later and authorities were asking for the public’s help.

A commercial fisherman initially spotted the body on Dec. 24 about 1 mile from Crystal Cove, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The man’s race and age were unknown, but authorities said he was wearing dark nylon Champion-brand sweatpants with zippered legs and size 11 black Asics running shoes. He wore a black Timex watch with a plastic band.

He was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 165 pounds in weight and as having dark hair.
