A cherished memory from World War II has been returned to its rightful owner 70 years later.
That owner is now 94. Betty McAleenan will now be able to wear her class ring after she gave it to her sweetheart, Robert Fisk, a lieutenant colonel in the Wyoming Air National Guard.
She gave him the ring to wear in combat. He carried it in 38 air missions in the South Pacific, but he was shot down in 1944. His remains were found 40 years later.
“He was a wonderful, wonderful guy,” Betty McAleenan said. “And I fell madly in love like all people do at that age.”
The ring has now come full circle, her family said.
