Turf wars seemed to be escalating among some surfers at Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estates.
Hundreds of surfers were reportedly planning to gather on Monday to reclaim the pristine surfing area for everyone to enjoy.
However, some groups of local surfers said they wanted to keep non-locals out of the water because they have been violent outsiders at times. There were also reports of vehicles being vandalized in the past.
The territorial attitude came as some high surf was expected to hit the coast on Monday.
A high surf advisory was in effect until noon on Wednesday for portions of Orange and San Diego counties due to a series of large swells expected in those areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Storms moving over the North-Central Pacific were slated to bring 4- to 8-feet waves to parts of the Southern California coast, forecasters said.
KTLA’s Wendy Burch and Juan Flores contributed to this report.
