A Maryland mother was facing child neglect charges Friday after allegedly leaving her two young daughters alone in the car at the mall while she was at the beauty counter getting a make-over.

Police were first alerted to the situation when a mall customer heard the children crying inside a Cadillac SUV in the parking lot, Charles County police told CNN.

When officers arrived they found a 6-year-old girl and her 3-year-old sister alone and shivering inside the car, according to police. The outside temperature at the time was 16 degrees.

Police quickly tracked down their mother, identified as Regina Coleman, inside the mall. She told officers she had only been gone 10 minutes and was looking for her lost wallet.

But investigators later determined the 28-year-old had actually been inside the department store for 90 minutes having her make-up done, police said.

Coleman’s children were placed in the care of relatives.
