Police Ask for Help as Victim of Fatal South L.A. Shooting ID’d

An early morning shooting in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles left a 34-year-old man dead Friday, police said.

The shooting was reported around 2 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Budlong Avenue (map), according to Detective Chris Barling with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was later identified as Ray Lewis Rice, an LAPD news release stated Friday afternoon. He was found face down and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

He had been found dead on the sidewalk, Barling said. No weapon was found at the scene.

Police asked for the public’s help identifying the shooter.
