Gunman Shoots Customer in Face at South Gate Drugstore

A search was underway Monday in South Gate for the gunman who shot a customer inside a Rite Aid drugstore, authorities said.

The shooting occurred Sunday night around 9 p.m. in the 9700 block of Otis Avenue (map), according to the South Gate Police Department.

For some unknown reason, a gunman walked up to a customer and shot the victim in the face, police said.

Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital.

He was listed in critical condition, but was expected to survive, police said.

Meantime, the gunman ran away before officers arrived.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been gang related.

The South Gate Police Department urged anyone with information to give them a call.
