Homicide detectives were asking the public for help in their investigation into the slaying in the 900 block of North Academy Road (map) — at the edge of Dodger Stadium and Elysian Park in the Echo Park neighborhood — at about 4:25 p.m. Sunday.

A gunman produced a handgun and shot the victim multiple times, according to a news release issued Monday by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 45-year-old male victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to LAPD.

“The motive for the murder appears to be gang related,” the news release stated.

Marathon runners left Dodger Stadium at about 7 a.m. Sunday, with area roadways remained closed for several hours afterward.
