Police Search Homeboy Industries; No Gunman or Hostages Found
No gunman or hostages or were found Thursday night after Los Angeles police responded to a commercial building in Chinatown, authorities said. The scene was cleared following a search of the the area.
Officers had responded to a call of an armed man holding six to eight people hostage at 130 Bruno Street (map), according to Officer Nuria Vanegas of the Los Angeles Police Department’s media relations section.
The address is the location of Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit organization.
The caller had reported that the man was a former employee who was armed with a handgun, Vanegas said.
The reporting party was not at the location, according to Vanegas.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“Homeboy Industries serves high-risk, formerly gang-involved men and women with a continuum of free services and programs, and operates seven social enterprises that serve as job-training sites,” according to the organization’s website.
