Police were called to the scene of a disturbance reported in the 7900 block of Bright Avenue (map) at about 4 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Przybyl of the Whittier Police Department.

Arriving officers found several windows broken out of the home and heard yelling, Przybyl said.

A man was believed to be inside the home holding a woman hostage, but the relationship between them was not clear, he said.

A SWAT team from the Los Angles County Sheriff’s Department was on scene.
