Man Arrested for Slamming SUV Into Starbucks in Newport Beach

A man was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly slammed his SUV carrying a young child into a Starbucks coffee shop in Newport Beach.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at the restaurant at 4678 Campus Dr. (map).

The driver fled the scene with the child but was caught several blocks away, according to Sgt. Corey Wolik with Newport Beach Police Department.

He was arrested for hit and run while the child was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation, Wolik said.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the crash.

No injuries were reported.
