A nail salon manager from Garden Grove was accused Friday of being a “pimp” and a “modern-day slave owner” by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, which announced charges against the woman.
Cam Da Le, 47, allegedly instructed a 25-year-old salon employee to “perform commercial sex acts” on a nail salon customer, then took the money the victim earned, only paying her tips, according to a news release from the DA’s office.
Le was charged with one felony count each of pimping and pandering. She was expected to be arraigned from the Central Jail in Santa Ana, where she was being held, on Friday.
“Le is accused of being a pimp/modern-day slave owner who exploits women and/or children for financial gain. The victims are required to turn over all payment they receive for sex acts from sex purchasers to their pimp,” the news release stated.
The Police Department in the city of Orange had investigated whether the nail salon that Le managed was “acting as a brothel,” according to the DA’s office.
Le allegedly “procured” the victim for the purpose of prostitution. The victim, named only as “Jane Doe,” agreed to engage in sex acts with an undercover Orange police officer, the DA’s office stated.
Le faces up to six years in state prison if convicted as charged.
Prosecutors planned to request that bail be set at $250,000 and that it must be paid from a “legal and legitimate source.”
