A 2-year-old girl who was struck in a hit-and-run in San Bernardino has died, the county coroner’s office confirmed Thursday.
Asianae Thomas darted into the road from a birthday party at a home on North Mountain View Avenue. In the street, she was hit by a vehicle, described as a dark-colored flatbed truck, that fled.
On Wednesday, San Bernardino police confirmed that the girl was on life-support and had been declared brain-dead.
At a prayer vigil at the scene of the collision on Wednesday night, mother Erika Hannah mother begged the driver who hit her child to come forward. Family members said the girl was still in grave condition.
“He needs to come out and tell the world what he did to my baby, because he killed her,” Hannah said. “She was only a little girl. She was only 2.”
On Wednesday, Thomas was pronounced dead at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to a short summary that was apparently posted to the website of the San Bernardino County coroner’s office on Thursday morning.
The child remained at Loma Linda hospital on Thursday, a coroner’s official said.
The San Bernardino Police Department was investigating the incident. Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Peck at 909-384-5664.
Police had previously said the girl was 3 years old, but family and the coroner’s office said Thomas was 2.
